Losing weight and keeping it off is hard to do alone, and most of the advice online is not written for your body, your health or your life. At Red Hill Family Clinic, weight management is led by your GP. Dr Harijs (Harry) Pavasaris has a special interest in weight loss management and has assisted in bariatric surgery, so he understands the approaches available and where each fits.

How our weight loss clinic works
1. Assessment
Your first appointment is a long consultation. Your GP goes through your medical history, weight history, medicines, sleep, mood and eating patterns, takes measurements, and orders blood tests to look for anything making weight loss harder, such as thyroid or blood sugar problems.
2. A plan that fits your life
Together you set realistic goals and agree a plan built around food, movement and habits you can keep. Your GP will discuss the options that are suitable for you and explain the benefits and risks of each.
3. The right support team
Where it helps, your GP can refer you to a dietitian, exercise physiologist or psychologist, and can set up a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan so Medicare contributes to those visits if you have a related chronic condition.
4. Regular reviews
You will see your GP regularly to review progress, adjust the plan and deal with setbacks early. Follow-ups can often be done by telehealth.
Who it is for
Anyone who wants medical support to lose weight, particularly if you have a health condition that would improve with weight loss such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea, joint pain or fatty liver, or if you have tried on your own and it has not lasted.
Fees
Weight loss appointments are billed as long consultations. Bulk billing applies for eligible patients across all our consulting hours; otherwise a private fee applies and Medicare pays a rebate. Please ask reception for the current fee.
Common questions
Do I need a referral?
No. Book a long appointment and tell reception it is for weight management.
Is any of it covered by Medicare?
